Aston Villacaptain Jack Grealish took a sly dig at England boss Gareth Southgate after he was once again overlooked by the Three Lions boss.

The 24-year-old was not named in England’s squad for upcoming games against Iceland and Denmark, meaning his wait for a Three Lions debut goes on.

The midfielder was nominated for young player of the year after a scintillating campaign for Villa, where he spearheaded his boyhood side to survival.

Grealish switched allegiances from the Republic of Ireland to England when he was 18 but he’s yet to earn a national call-up.

The midfielder was overlooked earlier in his career by Southgate as the England boss said Grealish had to prove himself in the Premier League before earning a call-up.

Last year Southgate said that Jack Grealish must gain more Premier League experience to earn a call-up â³

However, while Grealish was left out again today, Leeds United ace Kalvin Phillips is set to make his debut despite never playing in the Premier League before.

A tweet from SkyBet spelled out as much and Grealish couldn’t resist a dig at Southgate by ‘liking’ the tweet shortly after the squad announcement was made.

Grealish later removed the ‘like’ but not before supporters noticed his activity and it’s clear that the midfielder is unhappy with Southgate’s decision.

Manchester United remain keen on signing the 24-year-old but Villa’s £75m asking price has put off the Red Devils.

Whether Southgate’s latest snub could convince Grealish to push for a move remains to be seen but it’s clear – having been overlooked by Southgate when he was U21 boss too – that the pair do not see eye-to-eye.
