With that in mind, here is a round-up of everything we know so far about Chelsea’s pursuit of the midfielder and what the very latest developments are.

Six attributes that could make Havertz the ideal signing for Chelsea

Chelsea may have already secured the signing of Ajax sensation Ziyech for next season but you can never have too much quality, right?

If the Blues were to win the race for the midfielder, who would have had ambitions to represent Germany at this summer’s European Championships had they not been suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic, he would add an extra wealth of quality to Lampard’s options.

Kai Havertz has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea

Kai Havertz has been strongly linked with a move to Chelsea

And that is an opinion held by Leverkusen assistant boss Marcel Daum, who has outlined the midfielder’s qualities.

He told talkSPORT: “If you see his movement, he’s very elegant, he’s always calm, he has great passing ability. What a lot of people don’t see, because we watch him every day, is that he’s pretty fast. That’s a big bonus.

“He’s a great player; he’s scoring goals, he’s great in the air and he’s pretty fast.

“It’s up to him how far he can go.”

Chelsea told how much it will cost to complete deal

Chelsea would be able to secure Havertz’s signature if they paid north of £90million.

That is according to Bayer Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz.

Bosz toldAlgemeen Dagbladback in March: “He can’t be held on to next summer. That will be a transfer of €100million (£90million). What am I saying? More than €100million (£90million)!”

Havertz compared to Hazard

Former Tottenham Hotspur striker Dimitar Berbatov recently compared Havertz to former Chelsea star Eden Hazard, as the Bulgarian outlined the fact that the Blues have not yet replaced the Belgian with a player of such magnitude.

Berbatov told Betfair: “I think it is interesting to see Chelsea linked with him, they haven’t really replaced Hazard since he left and it was always going to be difficult to do so.

“I think for sure they need to go for a young player with a lot of football ahead of them, if that is the case then they will also have to be patient as well because sometimes young players need time to adjust to the physicality and speed of Premier League.”

Blues planning £75m Havertz bid

TheDaily Mailreports that Chelsea have stepped up their interest in securing Havertz’s signature and are ready to launch a £75million bid to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

It is claimed that Chelsea, despite knowing that they face stern competition to land his signature, are desperate to add him to Frank Lampard’s squad and have identified him as a player that they want.

Kai Havertz is one of the hottest properties in European football at the minute

Havertz is currently valued at the £75million mark and the Blues are willing to pay it, as they look to try and bridge the gap on their Premier League rivals.

Having already signed Hakim Ziyech and moving in the right direction to securing the signature of Timo Werner, the addition of Havertz would certainly be the cherry on the icing on the cake for Chelsea this summer.

Transfer talks confirmed

Bildare reporting that talks between Chelsea and Leverkusen for Havertz are ongoing.

However, the Blues are not the only team in the running.

Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester United are also interested.

Even Newcastle United have been mentioned.

Bayer Leverkusen chief drops hint

Bayer Leverkusen chief Fernando Carro has hinted that the German side could let Havertz depart this summer.

Amid talk of a big-money switch to Chelsea, Carro has stated that player wishes to “take the next step sometime in the near future” as he looks to progress his game.

“Many clubs are interested in him,” he told Kolner Stadt-Anzeiger (viaMetro). “I see the player’s wish to take the next step sometime in the near future.

“You have to respect that as much as the fact that he has a contract in until 2022.”

Chelsea open talks with Leverkusen for Havertz deal

The Athletic, via theExpress, have reported that Chelsea have opened talks with Leverkusen to try and negotiate a deal for Havertz ahead of the summer transfer window officially opening for business.

Speculation regarding Havertz’s future has been rumbling on over the past few weeks, with increasing interest in the Germany international emerging from Stamford Bridge.

Blues boss Lampard is desperate to add some creativity to his midfield and Havertz would most certainly do just that.

Chelsea are even more hopeful of landing Kai Havertz of Leverkusen

According to the report, Chelsea have entered negotiations with the Bundesliga club as they look to reach an agreement for the £90m-rated starlet.

Chelsea and Real Madrid offers

According to reports in Spain, Bayer Leverkusen have received two offers for Havertz.

One is an €80million (£72.3million) offer from Real Madrid and the other is from Chelsea which is said to be in the region of €88million (£79.6million).

Furthermore, the report claims both clubs have offered Havertz a five-year deal, but perhaps crucially the German would earn more at Chelsea.

Leverkusen and Havertz’s representatives are set to mull over the offers.

Will he choose the Blues?

Havertz to make decision soon

According to German publication Bild, via theMetro, Havertz will soon sit down and discuss his long-term future with Bayer Leverkusen on July 4, following the DFB Pokal final between Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

Interest is mounting as each day passes by in the German star, with both Chelsea and Bayern keen on landing his signature.

Havertz is open to the idea of sealing a move to Chelsea, but only as long as they have secured Champions League football for next season.

And the 21-year-old is happy to thrash out plans for his future once Leverkusen’s season is concluded following the clash with Bayern in just over a week’s time.

Leverkusen are hopeful that they can retain Havertz’s signature but they may face a stern battle if high offers come their way.

Chelsea could land Havertz in cut-price deal

The Bundesliga season reached its conclusion on Saturday afternoon and Bayer Leverkusen completed the campaign with a 1-0 home win over Mainz, with Kevin Volland netting the only goal after just two minutes.

Despite concluding the season with a three-point haul, Leverkusen, as a result of Borussia Mönchengladbach’s win over Hertha Berlin, missed out on securing Champions League football by two points.

That means that Leverkusen, according to areports, could now be willing to let the midfielder go for a fee nearer to £70million, opposed to the £90million price tag they would have demanded had they secured a top-four finish.

This is good news for Chelsea as they are understood to be happy to spend around £70million on attempting to lure him to Stamford Bridge.

Kai Havertz has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer

Kai Havertz has been linked with a move to Chelsea this summer

Following Saturday’s win over Mainz, Leverkusen boss Peter Bosz issued an update on Havertz’s future.

He said: “I don’t feel that he is thinking too much about transferring.

“I certainly don’t have the impression that this will be his last game for the club. He is still under contract with us and I have to assume that he will be with us next season too.

“That will include the German Cup final next month and the next Europa League game against Rangers in August.

“Of course, that’s all dependent on nothing happening before then.”

Chelsea’s plan to seal Havertz deal

According to a report by theExpress, Chelsea are open to looking at a new way to fund their planned move for Havertz this summer.

Lampard is desperate to add the talented youngster to his ranks, but as outlined above, a deal will not come cheaply.

With that in mind, though, it is claimed that the Blues will look to the idea of possibly selling six players to fund a deal for the versatile attacker.

It is claimed that Chelsea will aim to offload Marcos Alonso, Emerson Palmieri, Michy Batshuayi, Tiemoue Bakayoko, Kenedy and Danny Drinkwater in an attempt to fund a deal.

Marcos Alonso impressed against Manchester City

Chelsea could sell Marcos Alonso to fund a move for Kai Havertz.

No bid yet, but Havertz aware of interest

According to German outletBild, Chelsea have not made an offer to Bayer Leverkusen but Kai Havertz’s representatives are aware of the Blues’ interest.

Meanwhile, theGuardianclaim that Havertz does not want to wait another year before moving.

And that the midfielder finds a move to London ‘appealing’.

Havertz asks Leverkusen to sell

According to a new report fromBild, Kai Havertz has asked Bayer Leverkusen for his release this summer.

Chelsea are thought to be one of two clubs actively trying to sign the youngster, with the other Real Madrid.

The Blues are prepared to pay Leverkusen’s €100m asking price for Kai Havertz, but will negotiate breaking it up into instalments.

Two Chelsea players key

Havertz German international teammates Antonio Rudiger and Timo Werner are two key reasons for Havertz interest in joining Chelsea this summer, according tothe Telegraph.

Werner completed a transfer earlier in the summer, with Chelsea looking to make Havertz their third new arrival.

However, the report claims that the biggest stumbling block for Chelsea will be the fee, with Leverkusen asking for a price in the region of £90 million.

Havertz keen on Chelsea switch

Midfield star Havertz has told his representatives that he “would like” to seal a switch to Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, according to Italian journalistFabrizio Romano.

Kai Havertz is open to a move to the Premier League.

The Germany international has previously outlined his willingness to play in the Premier League and he is now keen on making that dream come true by sealing a move to Stamford Bridge.

Romano also claims that Havertz’s representatives that he wants to leave Leverkusen if a “important bid” arrives within the next week.

It is also reported that Werner could play a bid role in influencing his international teammate’s decision.

Rudiger contacts Havertz

According toBild, Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been in contact with Havertz for a couple of weeks and is trying to convince his international teammate to join the Blues.

Rudiger has previously admitted that he would like to see Havertz at Stamford Bridge.

The German midfielder is being heavily linked with a move to Chelsea this summer but it’s said he could cost around £100million.

Chelsea ready to meet release clause

Chelsea are the only club that are willing to meet the £90million release clause in Havertz’s Leverkusen contract, according to a report by theMail.

It is believed that Chelsea are locked in a battle with Real Madrid and Bayern Munich to secure the signature for the highly-rated 21-year-old.

Madrid are keen on taking Havertz to the Spanish capital but are not prepared to pay the fee that would be enough to complete a deal, whereas Chelsea are, which puts them at the very front of the queue to complete a deal.

Lampard issues update on Havertz links

Head coach Lampard addressed the media on Friday lunchtime ahead of the Blues’ trip to Sheffield United and he was asked what the latest developments were concerning the Blues’ quest to sign Havertz.

Lampard, as you would expect, refused to be drawn on interest linking the Germany international with a move to Stamford Bridge.

Lampard explained: “Unfortunately it’s another answer from me that that is not something I want to broach at this moment in time.

“My focus is completely on the game. So I don’t want to give you any ifs buts or maybes for the summer, my focus has to be on the here and now.”

Hudson-Odoi fears

According to90Min.comthe one big reason for Chelsea’s Havertz interest is because of fears of Callum Hudson-Odoi’s progress.

The teenager has been unlucky with injuries at Stamford Bridge this season, which have stunted his development.

Bayern Munich have previously shown an interest in the Chelsea star, but Blues officials are concerned that the injury may prove too much for him to come back from.

Champions League twist

Havertz has openly admitted he wants to play in the Champions League in the past.

And Chelsea’s defeat to Sheffield United could throw a real spanner in the works over trying to complete a deal this summer.

The Blues are third in the Premier League, but with a game in hand, both Manchester United and Leicester City can leapfrog them to drop them out of the top four.

Havertz told Sky Germany earlier this year: “Of course, there’s a lot of speculation at the moment. That’s normal. Right now, Leverkusen are my main focus and I’m concentrating on them. At the end of the season, we’ll find a solution.

“Personally, I always want to play in the Champions League. That’s been my goal since my first year here and in general that’s a goal for every Bundesliga player. Regardless, I’m grateful to Leverkusen so I don’t want to mess anything up.”

Lampard to sell trio to land Havertz

Chelsea are ready to sell left-back Emerson Palmieri and midfield duo Jorginho and Tiemoue Bakayoko in order to fund a deal for the German international.

According to a report byNicolo Schira, a well-respected sports journalist, via theExpress, Chelsea are ready to put in a €70million offer for Havertz, which can be financed by offloading the trio.

Kai Havertz.

Jorginho wants to seal a return to Italy to link up with Maurizio Sarri at Juventus, which could be helpful in determining Chelsea’s chances of signing Havertz.

Havertz prepared to seal transfer without Champions League guarantee

According to a report byBBC Sport, Leverkusen star Havertz would be happy to seal a move to Chelsea without the Blues offering him the guarantee of Champions League football next season.

In recent weeks, reports have claimed that a move to Stamford Bridge for the Germany international would all hinge on whether or not Chelsea had secured themselves Champions League qualification for 2020/21.

However, it is reported that Chelsea would not see their plans to sign Havertz scuppered if they fail to finish inside the top-four in the Premier League this season.

Havertz, of course, would prefer to join a club that could offer him Champions League football, but it would not be a deal-breaker if he couldn’t.

Norwich win serves as boost

Chelsea’s 1-0 win over Norwich could serve as a massive boost for the Blues’ hopes of landing Havertz this summer.

The three points put the Blues in the driving seat in the race for the final two Champions League spots ahead of the final three games of the season.

Chelsea are now four points above both Leicester and Manchester United ahead of the duo’s games later this week.

earning Champions League football would make the Havertz move a lot easier to do both financially and in terms of convincing the player.

Chelsea’s agent advantage

Chelsea are once again using the services of lawyer Michael Becker, the men who helped seal the transfer of Timo Werner, in order to get the Havertz deal over the line.

According to German football expert Christian Falk, the former agent of Michael Ballack is involved in the deal, which could serve as an advantage for Chelsea.

“When Werner was coming to England the agent of Ballack, who also helped Ballack move to Chelsea, had his finger in the deal,” Falk told theFootball Ranks podcast.

“He has work in the [Havertz] deal and if you have such connections to Germany and many people are sitting around the table…

“I think some people in the background can push the deal a little bit more.”

Leverkusen transfer terms

Leverkusen will be willing to accept payment for Havertz in instalments.

That is according toBIld reporter Christian Falkwho has issued an update on the big-money transfer.

Falk has confirmed that Leverkusen are unwilling to budge on their valuation of Havertz, with Chelsea having to pay out around £90million to sign the superstar frontman.

However, in his update, Falk also admitted that Leverkusen are“open to having add ons/bonuses in a deal”which would suggest Chelsea could get away with paying a lesser fee up front.

Hazard clause could help fund Havertz deal

Eden Hazard could help his former club seal a deal forKai Havertz.

This is because Chelsea are in line to receive a welcome windfall after Real Madrid clinched a 34th La Liga title on Thursday night with a 2-1 win over Villarreal.

Reportsclaim the fee could be as much as £18m, which would go a long way to funding a summer transfer for Havertz who will reportedly cost in the region of £90m.

Marina Granovskaia’s deals could fund transfer

Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz continues to be linked with a summer switch to Stamford Bridge

The potential arrival of the Germany international won’t come cheap and Chelsea will have to help finance moves by cashing in on some of the players already in west London.

While a couple of Lampard’s current first-team squad such as Michy Batshuayi and Emerson Palmieri could be on the move over the coming months, here we take a look at some forgotten playerswho the Blues need to part with.

Lampard responds

Chelsea head coach Frank Lampard has responded to the links to Havertz, refusing to rule out making more additions during the summer transfer window.

The Blues have already added Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner to their squad, but the Chelsea boss has not ruled out spending more money this summer.

We’ll see, I can’t answer that one we’re not there yet,”Lampard said.

“We have to focus on what’s in front of us.

“I wouldn’t want to compare it to any other spending summer or not.

“We’ll see how I feel and we feel as a club.

“If the squad needs strengthening or the balancing needs changing, if it does and we make moves great, but at the moment we don’t know.”

Havertz wants to seal transfer

According to theExpress, Havertz is “interested” in finalising a move to Chelsea this summer.

The German, of course, has been heavily linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge in recent weeks and now wants to make the move happen, despite apparent interest from Real Madrid.

Appearing ontalkChelsea, Bleacher Report’s transfer reporter Dean Jones highlighted how keen Havertz is to seal a move to Stamford Bridge.

He said: “He is interested, very interested actually.

“He really wants to push himself and Leverkusen are pretty surprised at how focused he is on finding a new club.

“He definitely wants Champions League football though so we will have to wait on that situation to be decided before knowing much more.

“If he joins then I’m not sure what the future holds for Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea.”

Blues close to completing deal

Chelsea are close to completing the signing of Leverkusen midfield sensation Havertz, a report byThe Athleticclaims.

The Blues have been plugging away for several weeks in their attempts to sign the Germany international but it now appears as though they will get their man.

It is claimed that the Blues, following Leverkusen’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the recent DFB Cup final, have sped up the process in an attempt to get the deal done.

The Athletic report that Chelsea will pay Leverkusen around €80million after add-ons, with the initial fee likely to be either €65million or €70million.

Chelsea open talks with Leverkusen

After weeks and months of speculation, Chelsea have finally officially opened talks with Leverkusen about the prospect of signing Havertz this summer.

According toSky Sports, the Blues have opened talks with the Bundesliga club about concluding a £70million deal, with Chelsea now the only club in the run in for the Germany international.

It is claimed that former Blues goalkeeper Petr Cech, in his role as the club’s technical adviser, will fly to Germany next week to hold face-to-face talks with the club and Havertz.

Abramovich priorities deal

Blues owner Roman Abramovich has made Havertz the club’s No.1 transfer target for this forthcoming summer, a report by German publicationBILDclaims.

The Russian businessman says Havertz is an ‘absolute top priority’ and has ordered transfer guru Marina Granovskaia to pull out all the stops in an attempt to complete the deal.

Granovskaia will lead the negotiations in the hope that Havertz can become the Blues’ third summer signing behind Ziyech and Werner.

Havertz’s ultimatum

According toBILD, Kai Havertz is set to demand that Bayer Leverkusen sell him to Chelsea when training starts again on Thursday.

Havertz is reportedly keen to meet with club officials to ask that they sanction his move and accept the Blues’ bid.

Chelsea are already in talks with the German club, but an agreement has not yet been reached.

Sane ‘confirms’ Havertz transfer

New Bayern Munich recruit Leroy Sane appears to have confirmed Havertz’s impending transfer to Chelsea.

The Germany international was speaking to the media on Thursday afternoon and was asked to comment on the links linking the Blues with a swoop for his international teammate.

Instead of refusing to comment on the claims, Sane went one further and practically confirmed the Blues’ signing of the Leverkusen star.

Sane said: “Werner and Havertz are two amazing signings for Chelsea.”

Marina decided on next signing

According to ESPN, Chelsea boss Lampard has lost patience with first choice goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and once the Havertz is completed, the Blues will turn their attention to signing a new number one.

Manchester United’s Dean Henderson has been linked, with the Blues reportedly ready to double the England under-21 international’s wages in order to lure him from Old Trafford.

The 23-year-old goalkeeper has enjoyed a highly successful two years on loan at Sheffield United, playing a key part in their promotion to the Premier League – and this season, their surprise challenge for European places.

Contract ‘agreed’

According toNicolo Schira, via the Express, Chelsea and Leverkusen are working to finalise a deal for Havertz and they only need to reach an agreement over the price.

The midfielder has reportedly agreed personal terms with Chelsea and will pen a five-year contract at Stamford Bridge worth £7.3million-a-year plus add-ons.

Marina Granovskaia is said to have struck the agreement meaning only the transfer fee needs to be sorted for the move to go through.

Bayer Leverkusen set to agree fee

Transfer expert Mark Behrenbeck, viaSportWitness, believes Chelsea are set to increase their bid for Havertz to €80 million plus bonuses with transfer negotiations set to take place next week.

Other suitors appear to now be out of the race and it is suggested that the Bundesliga side will agree to the fee after a fee of a €100m had been named as the initial asking price.

Chelsea’s bid is around €10 million higher than their last.

What Marina Granovskaia has been doing to influence Havertz deal

Should Chelsea’s aspirations about signing Havertz this summer go according to plan, it will, no doubt, be transfer guru Granovskaia who they have to thank.

The Chelsea director is at the heart of every deal Chelsea do and she is pulling out of all of the stops to ensure Havertz follows Ziyech and Werner in arriving at Stamford Bridge ahead of next season.

Marina Granovskaia (right) is hoping to conclude a deal for Havertz.

Now, according to a reportBild, via theExpress, Granovskaia has been in regular dialogue with Leverkusen in recent weeks about how the Blues could possibly cut the price of any potential deal.

According to the report, Granovskaia has been frequently talking to Leverkusen, attempting to lower the price of a deal to sign the midfielder.

However, it is claimed that Leverkusen are not willing to budge on their £90million asking price.

Havertz wants transfer completed by next week

Havertz wants to have put pen to paper on a contract at Stamford Bridge by next week, a report bySky Sportsclaims.

The Germany international is inching closer and closer towards sealing a switch to West London and he wants it finalised by the next week, before Bayer Leverkusen face Rangers in the Europa League.

Havertz is ready to pack his bags and seal a move to Chelsea, but the transfer fee itself is proving to be the hold up.

But if Chelsea and Leverkusen can reach an agreement as soon as next week, Havertz is ready to conclude the deal.

Granovskaia breakthrough

According to Sport Bild, as per the Express, Chelsea and Leverkusen have made a breakthrough in the wrangle over the terms of the contract.

And that would pave the way for Havertz to become a Chelsea player.

Chelsea did not want to go any higher than £70million for the frontman and it appears Leverkusen would be willing to accept that fee up front, as long as there are add-ons in the contract to take the full price up towards the £90million mark.

Havertz wants decision made

Germany international Havertz is now “putting pressure” on Bayer Leverkusen in his attempt to wrap up a move to Chelsea.

That is according to a report by theDaily Express, who claim that Havertz is urging the Bundesliga club to conclude talks with the Blues and allow him to seal his switch to Stamford Bridge.

Havertz wants the deal concluded by next week ahead of Leverkusen’s Europa League tussle with Rangers.

The report also claims that the Blues have already agreed personal terms with the midfielder, who is eager to seal a move to the Premier League.

Granovskaia’s transfer secret

Prior to Chelsea officially registering an interest in signing Havertz this summer, the Blues’ transfer guru, Granovskaia, had already started to gather information about Leverkusen’s past transfer dealings.

A report by German publication Sport Bild has revealed that Granovskaia spoke to sources about how Leverkusen deal with transfers, both arrivals and departures, to try and pick apart any weaknesses the German club may have in an attempt to land Havertz for a lower price.

And it is claimed that having gathered the information she wanted, she has now used her negotiating skills to try and get a deal over the line.

Blues close to agreeing structured transfer

Chelsea are very close to agreeing a “structured transfer deal” with Bayer Leverkusen for Havertz, a report byTEAMtalkclaims.

The Blues are confident about concluding a deal for the Germany international and would like to get it wrapped up as soon as possible.

And it is reported that Chelsea are ready to pay Leverkusen a substantial amount of the agreed transfer fee up front, with the rest being paid in instalments over the course of the five-year contract he is expected to sign at Stamford Bridge.

Bayer Leverkusen chief offers update

Bayer Leverkusen Sporting director Simon Rolfes has insisted that Havertz will remain with the German side until the end of their current European campaign.

Leverkusen are in Europa League action next week as they take on Scottish side Rangers in the round of 16 second leg.

With Chelsea appearing to be closing in on Havertz ahead of that game, the chief has given an update on the Blues pursuit pouring cold water on suggestions that the deal could be done soon.

“So far we have no offer,” he toldSky Germany. “We know about the interest of clubs, but there is no official offer.

“We have said several times that we will end the season with our entire squad. And that includes Kai. That goes without saying for us.”

Chelsea ready to target next signing

The Blues seem confident of a deal for Havertz being completed, so much so that they are turning to Hakim Ziyech to help them complete their next signing after the German.

Jan Oblak has emerged as a prime target for Lampard, with Chelsea hoping that Ziyech’s friendship with him at Ajax will help seal the deal.
