Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland’s childhood idol was Premier League cult hero Michu – GIVEMESPORT

Move over Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, Erling Haaland is here.

The teenage prodigy is on top of the world right now after making a blistering start to his Borussia Dortmund career.

Haaland, 19, has 11 goals in just seven games for the German club. He’s already hit 37 goals for the season, including his tally for Red Bull Salzburg.

The Norwegian’s latest feat was a brace against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League on Tuesday, helping Dortmund to a 2-1 win in the first leg of their last-16 tie.

Haaland now has 10 goals in the competition this season, more than Barcelona have managed as a team.

And all for just €20 million.

Not only is the young striker a prolific goalscorer but he’s also a very interesting character.

He was born in Leeds, England and still holds the world record for the longest standing jump for five-year-olds, reaching 1.63m in 2006.

And while he considers Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Cristiano Ronaldo to be among his football idols, another name Haaland looks up to is none other than Michu.

That’s right, the former one-season wonder with Swansea City.

Haaland has tagged himself as Michu on several of his Instagram posts and has reportedly said about the Spanish striker: “Michu. I loved watching him at Swansea. He played with his left foot, he was tall & a clinical finisher.”

To be fair to Haaland, Michu was sensational in that 2012/13 season with Swansea.

The retired forward responded after hearing of Haaland’s admiration for him when he spoke to AS.

“It’s an honour. I think he’s going to be a world-class player,” Michu told Spanish media outlet AS.

“He’s a much better player than me.”

No need to be so down about yourself, Michu. That 2012/13 campaign was the stuff of dreams.
