Report: Giovani Lo Celso could leave Tottenham as Jose Mourinho remains unsure – TBR – The Boot Room – Football News

December 3, 2019

Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo have claimedthat Jose Mourinho may choose not to buy Giovani Lo Celso on a permanent basis either in January or next summer, with the Argentine yet to start under the new manager.

Lo Celso has endured a difficult spell at Tottenham since joining the club from Real Betis on a loan-to-buy deal. The move saw Tottenham pay around £13.7million up front (ED) and then have a clause to buy him permanently in either window.

It is believed Spurs would have to spend £35.3million to land him in January, but a much less £27.5million at the end of the season. The report claims, though, that Mourinho is yet to be convinced by the Argentina international.

The former Paris Saint-Germain attacker failed to feature at all in Spurs’ opening two matches under Mourinho, and was only a two-minute substitute against Bournemouth. The report claims Spurs may opt against buying Lo Celso permanently.

TBR’s view – Tottenham must give Lo Celso until end of season

Ousting the attacking midfielder or not giving him a fair crack at the whip would be harsh on Lo Celso. The Argentine needs plenty of game time to prove that he can be a success at Spurs – just as he was at Betis.

Mourinho needs to use the star more frequently and effectively for Daniel Levy to have all the knowledge he needs to make a well-informed decision. Right now, though, things look bleak for Lo Celso.
