Manchester United let central defender, Chris Smalling, leave on loan to join AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
Now, reports suggests that the Red Devils are in talks with the Italian club to make his move permanent, furthermore, they are looking to sign Nicolo Zaniolo from the Giallorossi.
According toIl Messaggerovia (Sport Witness), Manchester United sent their scout to Palermo to observe the performance of the 20-year-old playmaker when Italy faced Armenia in their final Euro 2020 qualification fixture few days back.
Zaniolo proved to be highly impressive as he directly contributed in 3 goals (2 goals and 1 assist) in a contest that the Azzurri won 9-1 on the night.
TheItalian outlethave claimed that United are in talks with Roma over the transfer of Smalling and they also plan to to speed things up to sign Zaniolo because they know that his value is rising very quickly.
Reports in Italy indicate (Leggo) that the young attacker, who made his debut for the four-time World Cup winners earlier this year, is now valued at 80 million euros (£68million).
The former Inter Milan attacker is a versatile talent, who can effectively play in multiple offensive positions. Last season, Roma mainly utilized him in the central attacking midfield role but this season, he has mostly played on the right flank and netted three goals in his last four starts in the Serie A.
In the Europa League, so far, the playmaker has directly contributed in three goals in four appearances this term.
United do lack quality and depth in the attacking third, especially, they do not have a natural/quality central attacking midfielder. In such a situation, should Solskjaer move to sign Nicolo Zaniolo in the winter transfer window?
