Chelseadefender Antonio Rudiger looks set for another three weeks on the sidelines after suffering a recurrence to his groin injury during training.
The 26-year-old has had an injury-ravaged campaign after missing the start of the season with a knee problem and then tweaking his groin against Wolves in September.
A 45-minute runout at Molineux is all that the German has mustered forFrank Lampardso far as he had to undergo groin surgery in a bid to correct the problem.
There were rumours that Rudiger would be able to return to imminently after he was quoted as saying that he was ‘itching to play’ however, Lampard insisted it that isn’t the case.
Speaking last week, Lampard said: ‘I saw the quotes. There was a miscommunication somewhere. He’s not fit and will be seeing a consultant on Monday.’
Rudiger has been Chelsea’s most consistent defender since joining the club from Roma in a £30m deal in 2017, featuring 90 times for the club in all competitions.
In his absence, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori have struck up a good partnership in central defence although they conceded four goals at home to Ajax on Tuesday.
Chelsea will be without long-term absentee Ruben Loftus-Cheek and the suspended Jorginho for Saturday’s game against Crystal Palace while Ross Barkley and Mason Mount are doubtful.
