Manchester Unitedare in talks with Angel Gomes over a new deal at Old Trafford though the club fear he could leave at the end of the season.
The diminutive midfielder made his first start of the season in United’s 1-0 win against Astana on Thursday.
Gomes has been promoted to the first team squad underOle Gunnar Solskjaerbut his opportunities have been limited despite encouarging talk from the Norwegian that the midfielder was ready.
The 19-year-old signed a three-year deal with the club in 2017 and his current contract expires at the end of the season.
And, according to the MEN, United have opened talks with Gomes’ representatives over a new deal.
A deal is not said to be close and United fear that they could lose the playmaker at the end of the season when he’ll be available on a free transfer.
Solskjaer has promised Gomes game time in both the Europa League and Carabao Cup this term but it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to keep the teenager.
Tahith Chong is also out of contract at the end of the season and United hope to convince the winger to stay.
