Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has told youngster James Garner that he will receive chances to impress in the first-team at Manchester United this season.
The 18-year-old midfielder, who has been likened toMichael Carrick, made his senior Man United debut during a 3-1 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Garner took his chance to impress over pre-season, scoring a wonderful goal during United’s opening friendly against Perth Glory.
And according toManchester Evening News, Solskjaer highly rates Garner and wants to introduce him to the first team over the next few months.

Solskjær expects James Garner to develop into a top player. Garner’s representatives rate him so highly that they dropped other United academy clients this year#mulive[men]

That United have actually dropped other talents in favour of focusing on Garner suggests that the 18-year-old, a very understated figure with little social media presence, deserves to be mentioned in the same category as more coveted academy stars such as Mason Greenwood, Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes.
Brandon Williams and Ethan Laird are also names that United supporters should not forget. They are knocking on the door of the first team.
For Garner, though, the chance of following in the footsteps ofScott McTominay, who nobody expected to still be at United this time last year, is very real after United failed to reinforce their midfield over the summer – despite losing bothAnder HerreraandMarouane Fellaini.
