Arsenal are reportedly pursuing a move for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney this summer, as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his defensive options ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
The Gunners boss currently has Sead Kolasinac and 33-year-old Nacho Monreal as his options at left-back, but appears to be in the market for a stronger option.
At 33, Monreal is entering the final stages of his career, while Kolasinac failed to make much of an impact during his debut campaign, despite showing promise at the start of the season.
Celtic are said to value the Tierney at £25million, and the Gunners have thus far fallen short of that figure with their two offers for the Scotland international, with reports suggesting Arsenal have offered no more than £19million.
And with that in mind, we’ve taken a look at six left-back’s Emery could turn to should the Gunners fail in their pursuit of Tierney.
Firpo has been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer following a fine campaign for Real Betis last season. Similarly to Tierney, however, the Spaniard would take a large chunk out of Arsenal’s budget.
Unlike Firpo, Luis wouldn’t make a dent in Arsenal’s transfer budget at all with the Brazilian’s contract with Atletico Madrid set to expire this summer.
Though he would be a relatively short-term option at 33-years-old, Luis would certainly be a strong signing for the Gunners.
Lewis had a fine campaign for Norwich City last season, making 42 league appearances as the Canaries won the Championship to gain promotion to the Premier League.
At 21-years-old, Lewis would be a fine signing and offer plenty for the Gunners.
Angelino had a fine campaign for PSV Eindhoven last season, though the Gunners would have to act quickly given the interest in the 22-year-old.
Rogerio has been a consistent performer for Sassuolo during his two-year loan stint from Juventus, and the full-back is another who has been linked with a Premier League move.
The versatile Mittelstadt would be a fine addition for the Gunners, given the 22-year-old’s ability to feature as a left-back and a left-winger.
