Serie A rallies against Juve – Football Italia

June 11, 2019

Fifteen Serie A sides have agreed to rally against Juventus over proposed Champions League reform, but Inter and Milan both abstained.

It was announced on Monday that a resolution had been signed by a significant majority of Serie A clubs, vowing to support the other top European Leagues in their opposition to UEFA and the European Club Association (ECA).

According to the 15 sides, the plans – which consist of promotion and relegation in European competitions – could lead to a decrease of as much as 35 percent in Serie A revenues.

However, Juve voted the document down, given their President Andrea Agnelli is also the head of the ECA and is pushing for a Super Champions League.

Furthemore, Inter, Milan, Fiorentina and Roma all chose to sit out the vote.

“Even if his vision turns out to be the right one to protect European football, he was wrong in terms of method and communication,”  said Lega Serie A President Gaetano Micciche, in a jibe at UEFA chief Aleksander Ceferin.
