The Simpsons: Bart vs. the Space Mutantswas the firstSimpsonsgame released way back in 1991, and the long-running animated American sitcom has managed to release 26 more games in the time since. The latest wasThe Simpsons: Tapped Out, a 2012 freemium mobile game, but according to a recent announcement and the rumors swirling around it, a newSimpsonsgame may very well be announced at E3 2019.
Considering the popularity of both the sitcom and the gaming industry, this really should come as no surprise. Aside from the myriad of game releases,The Simpsons has featuredMinecraft,Pokemon GO, and most recently, parodies ofLeague of LegendsandDOTA 2on the show. As a rumor though, this should be taken with a grain of salt, but it has its beginnings in an earnest announcement.
The official E3 Twitter account recently posted the announcement that the writers and producers ofThe Simpsonswill have a panel at the event on June 11. It’ll take place at E3 Coliseum, as hosted by Geoff Keighley, alongside otherE3 Coliseum panels such asCall of Duty 2019. And this announcement took on a life of its own in the comments, as many were asking for games such as remakes for Konami’s 50th anniversary,The Simpsons: Hit and Run 2, or a brand newSimpsonsgame.
It is possible that they are there for an entirely different reason or for an unrelated project, and this announcement won’t result in a newSimpsonsgame. Still, it’s hard to imagine what else this announcement could mean since it citedThe Simpsonsdirectly, and what’s more, the last consoleSimpsonsgame came out in 2007. This means there has been plenty of time for a game to be secretly in development and now revealed at E3 2019.

ThisSimpsonsrumor isn’t the only one circulating around the prestigious E3 2019 event, though. Recently, it appears that a franchise spin-off dubbedDarksiders: Genesiscould also be announced at E3 2019, but until then, fans will just have to wait and see what pans out and what doesn’t.
A newSimpsonsgame is rumored to be in development.
